Jessie Childs was born in 1976
and educated at West Heath and Stowe School. She took a
first in history at Brasenose College, Oxford, in 1999
and has worked in television, researching historical
documentaries.

2007. She regularly speaks at literary festivals, local institutions and on
the radio and has written features and reviews for
various publications, including BBC History Magazine, The Daily Telegraph and
The Sunday Telegraph.
She lives in London with her husband James and is currently
working on her second book, a tale of plots, priest-holes
and persecution in the reign of Elizabeth I.
